Apple.com redesign

June 30th, 2007

Apple.com 2007

Ok, I’m maybe a little bit late with this post, but the new Apple website definitely deserves a quick note here. The result of the redesign is quite amazing - both from a design and technology perspective. Once again they have managed to set new standards.

The site extensively uses scriptaculous and prototype javascript for various subtle effects that we normally see only on flash-based websites. Images are also heavily used but thanks to an effective layout grid everything looks clean and well arranged. Nice.

Along with this relaunch Apple has also published its Safari browser for Windows. Although it’s still a beta version this marks a great opportunity for webdesigners and -developers to test the KHTML rendering engine on multiple platforms. An interesting aspect in this context is font aliasing. You can get further inside here and here.
